Dr Cooper provided his patients with excellent medical care, but they nevertheless found him to be cold and unfeeling about their personal lives. Here is an example:

I accidently tripped on the sidewalk; therefore, my knees were bruised.

First of 2 combined sentences: I accidently tripped on the sidewalk.

2nd of the interlocking sentences: Therefore, my knees were bruised.

Therefore, a compound sentence is two sentences combined. :D
