Fitness is highly specific. There are 3 main regions, Strength, Stamina and Suppleness. And within these regions there are many sub categories.

eg. An athlete who works on their power will have to sacrifice their log distance endurance because they comprise of 2 different energy systems and muscle fibre types which have the ability to take more of their share (might start out as 50/50 but thru training you can change them to 60/40) if you train them for that.

That is why Michael Phelps is such a phenomon, his ability to sprint and stay the distance is un heard of! It is swimming and you will never see that in track as it is even more specific but still amazing!

But there are other things that must be considered. A person can only master one sport at a time. And as the saying goes "You can be a jack of all traits, but a master of none". So it is safe to say that no one can master 3 kinds of sport, but would only be considered highly athletic.
