Felis caracal
The correct scientific name is Caracal caracal (Schreber 1776). Synonyms are Felis caracal and Lynx caracal.
The 8 subspecies (linked to location) are:
Depends on the lynx! A male caracal can be 40 pounds and over 2 feet long.... but there are several species of lynx that can get that size or bigger.
Antelope, sheep, goats, rodents, hares, birds- and once in a while, grapes. They are mainly a carnivore.
Servals are small african cats that are spotted with black spots, and they have 2 feet long legs, with large round ears, and short stubby tails. Caracals, like servals, are jumping cats that have a fav food of birds. Caracals are lynx related, but not lynx. They have tanish fur, with black-backed ears. Both cats are very beatutiful and endangered.
They either hunt solitary or paired. The caracal is a fussy eater and is known to disregard internal organs of mammals and partially plucks the fur off hyraxes (fairly small, thickset, herbivorous mammals) and large prey. Caracals avoid eating hair by shearing meat neatly from the skin. However, it will eat the feathers of small birds and is tolerant of rotten meat.
no their used to be very little of them because they were over hunted but they made a huge comeback because of limited hunting of caribou
a caribou can jump 6 feet in the air if it wants to if it is in trouble it will jump 10 feet in the air
Thousands of dollars and no reputable source that handles the sale and transfer of Caracals will do business with a member of Joe Public who doesn't know what he's doing with wild animals, and I can tell you're a Joe Public who doesn't know jack because only the ignorant ask this kind of thing on a site like WikiAnswers. I'm a zookeeper. I've worked with Caracals. If you want an exotic looking cat, do everyone involved (cats and humans alike) a favor and look into rescue groups for Ocicats or Bengals, which are domestic breeds. Every year, people get hurt and killed by wild animals and wild animals end up getting killed because someone who didn't know what they were getting into acquired a wild animal as a pet (not always legally) and got way more than they barganed for when the animal got much larger than they thought it would and/or reacted like a wild animal instead of the tame domestic beast they thought it would become.
Please, stick to domestic breeds and species.
Males get bigger, around 30-40lbs, females are about 20-30lbs. They can get to 2 feet tall and 2 feet long (without tail).
No. No they do not. Not only are their physical features very distinct, but their scents are entirely different.
To begin with, porcupines have a coat of sharp spines, or quills that set them apart from all other animals. Obviously, beavers do not carry this trait. Beavers have webbed feet and a long, wide tail. The tail of the porcupine is neither long or wide and porcupine's feet are not webbed. Next, beavers are the second largest rodent. Porcupines are the third largest rodent. This means that beavers are larger then porcupines. As you can see, beavers are completely different animals and have no true resemblance whatsoever. Sorry to all of those out there who thought they resembled each other.
Also, please note that just because these animals might be related, does not mean they look alike.
Oh, and just because you draw spikes on a beaver, does not mean it actually looks like a porcupine. You could probably draw spikes on a toaster and make it look like a porcupine.
Need more detail in question...... as in, where do they live? Africa mostly.
If this is already answered its useless, anyways there is about 100,000 caribou in one herd so if theres about 1,000 herd it should be about 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, caribou so then thats my answer not so good because i need a lot to experience :(
Humans are the primary threat to the caracals' existence, but leopards are known to kill them. Some bush tribes consider their meat to be a delicacy. Habitat destruction caused by agriculture and desertification is a threat in west, central, north, and northeast Africa.
