Science

The observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena is all part of science. Nothing is immune to the scientific process: from charm quarks that haven't existed naturally since the beginning of time to Pluto, recently demoted from planet to dwarf planet. Questions on knowledge about the material and physical aspects of our world are asked and answered here.

What is the importance of hypothesis in science?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

An hypothesis is an idea, notion, conjecture, assertion or statement about reality. The activity we call science is about putting forward and testing hypotheses. For example, you could test your notion that nickel might be magnetic by putting it near a magnet. If it was clearly attracted, you could suggest that "nickel is magnetic" was not just an hypothesis but a fact. If not, you might test with an even stronger magnet, and so on.

Testable hypotheses, especially those that help to explain why things act the way they do, are important because they prompt activities which can improve scientific knowledge.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Light is normally scene in white light form where all colours are "joined" in a single beam however when it enters a prism, due to the differences in how much each color refracts due to there varying speed within the solid (red fastest, violet slowest), the light is dispersed into many beams of different colours

making a rainbow effect, (it also happens in raindrops which act as prisms, which is how we get rainbows).
