Why would aboriginals create a diffrent word for the only plants they knew of? Non-native plants, that Europeans first brought would have been given new names. I would say that the aboriginal name for native plants would be simply their name for "Plants". Depending on what group and dialect, the word will differ.
There are many plants that grow in Alberta. Two native plants that come to mind are foothills rough fescue and douglas fir.
