Too many bangs under the steering wheel I reckon. Your turn signal/multi switch has quit working and must be replaced, take the two halfs of the steering column cover off and you should be able to get at it.
Perhaps problem in the steering column switch?
You may have a relay problem your flashers and turn signal are on different relays or there could be a problem with the wiring in the steering column that goes to the turn signal
The signals will be echoed back through the network till stopped.
Bulbs? Sockets? Steering column switch?
try looking at your power steering pump belt it could be slipping
Check the fluid level in your power steering reservoir. The ESP light is on because there is a problem with the stability system. They have nothing in common.
The "awful grinding sound" might be a problem with your power steering
Hey April==The flasher should be under the dash to the left of the steering column in the wiring. Goodluck Joe
This could be the problem. When this system came out in the 97's they had a lot of problems with them. Question, does it really get wild steering going down the highway? Owners said it would get really hard to steer then get real loose. Good luck. Normally just when I am stopped trying to back up or park
i have a 1999 durango with the same problem i have had numurous problems with this truckI had similar with my 2000. The air bag light was on, and the cruise / stereo did not function. You need to replace what is commonly called the clock spring. You will need to remove air bag and steering wheel. Not too difficult a job.
If your turn signal flashers stopped working, play with the emergency flasher button on top of the steering column. Our 97 Sable turn signals quit once and luckily I pushed the emergency flasher button in and out many times and the signals have worked ever since. But the emergency flashers don't work, but I can live with that.
