George Brown was a Canadian politician and journalist. Born in Scotland in 1818, Brown emigrated to Canada in 1843. He founded the Toronto Globe newspaper, and used it to publish articles and editorials attacking slavery in the southern United States. Brown was one of the Fathers of Confederation, the architects of a plan to join together the British American colonies into a Federal Union.
