The throttle body is where the air cleaner hose connects to the engine. Disconnect this hose to get to the body. The body can be cleaned pretty thoroughly with a spray cleaner found at most auto parts. Make sure to follow the cans directions.
You will need to remove the throttle body and replace the throttle body gasket. The throttle body gasket can be purchased at most auto-parts stores.
One possible cause could be the gasket under the throttle body is bad. To check this you can spray carb cleaner around the base of the throttle body while the engine is running. You will here a difference in the engine rpm if the gasket is bad.
The throttle body base gasket would be located between the throttle body and the intake manifold.
Disconnect negative cable from battery, relieve fuel pressure, disconnect throttle cable, disconnect fuel lines, disconnect any vacuum lines, disconnect electrical plugs, remove bolts holding throttle body, lift off throttle body, remove damaged gasket, clean area, replace in reverse order.
Changing the gasket itself is simple.. drain the oil, unbolt the oil pan from the bottom of the engine, use some aerosol gasket remover and remove all traces of the old gasket, slap the new gasket on with some RTV, and reattach the oil pan to the engine block. Not a whole lot to it. The trouble lies in getting to it... on a lot of cars, you'll actually have to remove the engine from the engine compartment in order to do this.
No.
It is the sealing part that seals the intake manifold to the cylinder heads and to the top of the engine block. The intake manifold is the part that distributes the air to the cylinders. It also can house the thermostat, the injectors, the throttle plate. An intake gasket could leak coolant, engine oil, or engine vaccuum.
throttle body" fuel", cooling system separate. On a 3.8 engine the throttle body and upper plenum contain coolant. There is a gasket between them that could leak. More important the upper pleninum on the 3.8 engine often develops a leak near the EGR inlet which is in the area you are concerned with.
Between the throttle body and the intake manifold.
You may have a vacuum leak, check the gasket under the throttle body, spray some carb cleaner around the base of the throttle body while the engine is running. If there is a leak you will hear a change in the engine rpms.
The process used will depend upon the year of the Econline.
I have a 1995 Skylark and the gasket was replaced about 4 years ago and I've had no trouble at all. It's a V-6 3100 engine.
