There are many of us out there who have experienced this problem and you hear some Horror stories of how people have had to break in their front grill to open the lock and then have the pleasure of paying to replace the grill, lock and a new coded key.
However, many times you can get around this. The way I managed to open my bonnet that was suffering from this obvious design fault was like this:
1). Apply pressure with one hand on the front of the bonnet right above where you put in the key.
2). With the other hand turn the key to the left. Applying varying levels of pressure with one had and turning the key anti-clockwise multiple times should release the first part of the mechanism and allow the bonnet to move up where it is caught by the main catch.
3). Remove the pressure from the bonnet, then carefully (you don't want to snap the grill) push the key in toward the lock whilst turning to the right (clockwise). You may need to apply a fair bit of pressure during this step, and with a bit of luck and multiple attempts of turning the key, eventually the mechanism will engage and release the lock and the boot will open.
Now there is also a way you can fix the lock yourself (apparently) although that is my job for today. It involves taking the actual lock off and attaching a cable tie to the section of the mechanism before it enters the lock. Apparently this stops the locking rod from slipping through the catch and not engaging which is what causes this problem in the first place. Let's hope it works!
On the bonnet, slide the Ford oval and insert the ignition key into the lock located there
a long reach screw driver through the grill to release the catch,
Rotate the ford badge on the grille and you should find a lock. Use the cars key to open the bonnet
the Ford badge on the front of the bonnet lifts up to reveal the bonnet release lock. Use the ignition key and turn to position 1, lift the bonnet, then turn to position 2 to fully release
Hi,I assume that the bonnet is the same as the Connect and Focus? If it is, there is a lock on the bonnet/hood. Either behind the badge or the flip up panel
There is a keyhole hidden behind the Ford logo in the grille Take the transit door key come to the front of the van and look at grill under the bonnet their you will find a place where this key can be inserted and turn this realises the lock and the bonnet will pop open.
Open the door with your key and pull the bonnet release.
Most likely cause is a faulty under bonnet pin switch
open the bonnet
get a pair of long nose pliers, to the left of the bonnet lock (as you look at it) is the bonney cable, insert the pliers through the grill to get hold of the cable and push it to your right, towards the lock and the bonnet should pop. the just release the catch and it should open.
Remove the grill, then undo the bolts under the lock to release the barrell. Using a stubby Phillips screw driver you then undo the lock as if you were using the key to open bonnet. Then just undo the 4 10mm bolts that hold the assembly to slam panel, then refit in reverse.
