a thick, rigid membrane that surrounds a plant cell. This layer of cellulose fiber gives the cell most of its support and structure. The cell wall also bonds with other cell walls to form the structure of the plant.
The functions of the cell wall in a plant cell are -

The cell wall acts as a protective layer for the cell. It gives rigidity and strength to the cell.

The cell wall is semipermeable and controls what enters and exits the cell.

The cell wall is flexible and allows for expansion of the cell when it absorbs water and mineral salts.

It helps to maintain the osmotic balance and prevents osmotic lysis (bursting of the cell due to excess water entering the cell).

It prevents the entry of molecules that may be toxic to the plant cell.

The cell wall keeps the cell in a rigid shape. The cell wall relies on the water in vacuole to keep exerting pressure on it to keep shape. When the plant is healthy and the vacuole is exerting enough pressure, the cell is known as being in a turgid state. The cell wall also provides structural support and can in some case prevent mechanical injury or help exchanges between the cell and the rest of the plant or the surrounding environment.

The cell wall works to hold the plant cell in a rectangular shape. Plants don't have bones

so they need the cell wall to hold the plant up.

Why cells parts do plant cells have that animals cell do not have?

Plant cells have chloroplasts and cell wall, which the animal cell does not have. An animal cell does not need chloroplasts as the function of the chloroplast is to help the plant to trap sunlight for it to make food in order for photosynthesis to occur. Cell wall is also not present as an animal does not have a regular shape. The function of the cell wall is to help the plant have a regular shape.

Why do plants cells have cell wall and animals cell do not have?

Cell wall is also not present as an animal does not have a regular shape. The function of the cell wall is to help the plant have a regular shape.

What is the function of the animal cell wall?

By definition, animal cells have no cell wall -- only plant cells do. That being said, the major function of the cell wall in plant cells is to control cell pressure due to the influx and exit of water into and out of the cell. Turgor in the plant cell is part of what gives a plant structure and helps it "stand up." Animal cells do not need this characteristic, as they have other mechanisms for maintaining structure and shape.

What two cell parts provide plant cells with extra support?

The cell wall. With this rigid structure plant cells can maintain turgor pressure; the pressure of internalized water pushing out on the cell wall. This pressure in every plant cell keeps the plant erect.

What is the main function of plant's cell wall?

The main component of cell wall is made up of cellulose molecules and its function is to allow substances to pass in and out of the cell membrane freely that is any substance.

What is the function of the secondary wall in the plant cell?

A major function of the cell wall is to act as a pressure vessel, preventing over-expansion when water enters the cell.

What is the function of the cell wall for both plant animal cells?

The function of the cell wall is to keep cellular material inside and other material outside.

What role does a cell wall play?

A cell wall is found in only plant cells and it acts as a double protection for the plant. It has no real function at all

What function does the cell wall in the plant cell perform that is not necessary in the animal cell?

Allows the plant cell to maintain a high level of turgid conditions that keep the plant erect.
