if your alternator is only 5 mon old you could have a bad connection on the alternator that isn't makeing good contact , or it could have a bad stator i would take the alternator back were you got it have them test it if its bad and it has a bad stator it might have warranty on it and they will replace it .
Check it for codes, check the fuel pressure, check the battery connections.....
your Alternator
check the alternator. Use a digital multimeter and with engine running you should have 13-14 volts at the battery. If less than 12.5 Alternator is not charging Also check the amperage the alternator is putting out.
I would check your alternator*(check the spelling).
It means that one gauge is not in the safe zone. Check the engine temp, oil pressure, battery/alternator voltage,It means that one gauge is not in the safe zone. Check the engine temp, oil pressure, battery/alternator voltage,
Start the engine and using a digital volt meter check the voltage at the battery with the engine running. If the alternator is good you will read from 13.5 to 15.5 volts DC.
to make a quick check -- start car - disconnect the positive cable at the battery as it is running - if car stalls the alternator is bad if it stays running the battery is probably too weak to hold a charge. (daddmac)
The proper way to check the alternator, would be best if you remove it and take it to your nearest auto parts store. Most of them test them for free. As far as outside controllers?I'm not a mechanic but as far as I understand it there are no controllers as the alternator is always running, providing power to the distributor, charging the battery and running all the electrics on the vehicle. The battery is only used to start the vehicle, run the non-ignition eletrics when the vehicle is off and to keep the engine running when the alternator fails. Please correct me if I'm wrong! Auto parts store to check to see if the alternator puts enough power out to keep battery charged.*A way to check if the alternator is good is to un-hook the positive battery cable while the engine is running. If the engine stalls the Alternator is bad.**
You don't. Disconnecting a battery cable to "check" the alternator is not a good idea. The removal of a cable with the engine running cuases a voltage spike that can damage the computer system on the car. The proper way to check the alternator is with a volt meter.
If the alternator is not charging the battery, then it will eventually go dead If the voltage regulator (in the alternator) is defective it will eventually kill the battery Check the alternator with a voltmeter A fully charged battery (without engine running) should read approx. 12.8 volts With engine running should read 13.8-14.2 volts
a simple test to check the alternator is to disconnect either one of the battery terminals battery while the car is still running at its slowest speed if the enginge quits the alternator is bad, or an easier test is to rev the engine from idle with the head lights on and observe if the lights get brighter. do you have a manual for the car?
check the battery with voltmeter without the engine running then check with it running if voltage is higher it is working
