Place key in passenger door as you turn key lift the door handle at the same time,that should overide the lockout, good luck

There should be two tabs on the edge of the door panel. They go up to unlock. These lock the doors from the inside (kind of like a police car). Then there's a switch next to the power window button (if you have those). That makes it so no one can get in. Hope that helps. I have a EX, but they should be similiar.

You go to the pass door, insert key and as you procede to unlock it lift handle at the same time Improvement...... This happened to me with a 1999 5 series, since there are no keyholes on either door and only the boot. I opened the boot with the key, connected jumpstart leads to the battery long enough to remotely open the doors. This gave me access to the Hood/Bonnet release handle allowing me to jumpstart the car from the engine, as is the proper way on a 1996 - 2004 5 series (as per the BMW operations manual)
