How do you unlock a 1992 5 series that has a dead battery and locks will not pop up with the key?

You go to the pass door, insert key and as you procede to unlock it lift handle at the same time Improvement...... This happened to me with a 1999 5 series, since there are no keyholes on either door and only the boot. I opened the boot with the key, connected jumpstart leads to the battery long enough to remotely open the doors. This gave me access to the Hood/Bonnet release handle allowing me to jumpstart the car from the engine, as is the proper way on a 1996 - 2004 5 series (as per the BMW operations manual)
