To test:
Put the car up in the air (ramps, jack etc) so you can get to the starter.
Place a test light grounded to the engine block on the small terminal on the starter.
When the key is turned it should light up.
If the starter does not work but the light comes on the starter needs replacement.
If the light does not come on:
One more test before you spend a whole bunch of money, just to be sure:
Get a volt meter and test the battery voltage both with the key on and the key in the start position. If the voltage stays near or above 11.5 volts the battery is ok, below 10 volts the battery is faulty or dead.

It depends on the type of birth control. Sometimes after starting it, it could be longer than normal, and sometimes it will disappear the first month. Sometimes it will be normal, and sometimes is will be shorter.
I have just came up on this same problem with my 2000 Kia. Turns out it was the Ignition switch. $160.00 to have it replaced.

No! The ECM is the Electronic Control Module (Computer), sometimes called ECU, Electronic Control Unit. The ignition switch is just that, the switch that controls the engine ignition, the power to the starter, starting and shutting the engine off, and power to the accessories.

check the wiring connections at the battery and the starter. Both places can give starting problems. The dash lights could be a separate problem. Check the fuses for the lights.
My 1999 Chevy silverado was hard starting when warm (but not when cold) and studdered sometimes at idle. Changing the fuel fillter cured both problems.
