run a hot wire directly to the blower motor. see if it runs that way.
It is probably the resistor. I had the same problem with my 99 Cougar. It is located on the passenger side under dash. Check with Ford. I think that this part was recalled.

Coil packs can not be checked for heat or load related issues. They can be checked for proper resistance with an ohm meter.
Mercury is a good conductor of heat. Unfortunately, heat will produce vapor which is toxic.
Plugged heater core maybe. Maybe the thermostat. Coolant keeps your engine cool under duress. If the thermostat is stuck open, the engine is staying too cool. Your heat is run off of your engine temperature.

The gears inside the odometer broke due to heat and age. You can buy the gears and replace them yourself. Or you can take your car to a place were they work on odometers.
