At 35mph it runs rough. Also when idling it will quit running, sometimes. Does that sound like I need new spark plugs? How many miles are new plugs & wires good for?
Yes. Bad spark plugs, bad spark plug wires and a bad distributor cap are the common causes of rough idling. If it has been a while since you changed these components, do so.
Spark plug wires? Coil pack? Dirty injector? Spark plug wires? Coil pack? Dirty injector? Spark plug wires? Coil pack? Dirty injector?
There are several things that can cause your 1993 Nissan 300 to idle rough. The most common cause is dirty spark plugs. Bad spark plug wires can also cause the problem.
Change the spark plugs and wires... Change the spark plugs and wires...
Ours was doing that. The fuel injection system needed cleaning, but it could be something as simple as a dirty fuel filter, or spark plugs and wires. If you put new plugs in, DO NOT gap them, they are preset, out of the box, and gapping them will ruin the platinum finish and they will not fire correctly. Injection cleaning: about $120 Plugs: about $30 Wires: about $60 To have plugs and wires installed at a service center: about $150
I would suggest a new set of plug wires.
It probably needs a tune up. My 1998 Mazda 626 was idling very rough, so I did a tune-up by replacing the spark plugs and wires. This made the engine run better, but the rought idling continued. I took it to my mechanic, and he found a vacuum leak somewhere, and $270 later, it idles smooth as glass
recheck wires to plugs sounds like two are crossed
To adjust for rough idling in a 1997 Acura RL, start by checking and cleaning the idle air control (IAC) valve, as it regulates airflow during idle. Inspect the throttle body for dirt buildup and clean it if necessary. Additionally, ensure that spark plugs, ignition wires, and fuel filters are in good condition, as worn components can contribute to rough idling. If issues persist, consider checking for vacuum leaks or using a diagnostic tool to identify any trouble codes.
Hopefully you got the timing marks lined up? What else did you add? Plugs? Were they gapped properly? Wires? Are they on tight? What exactly is "other things"?
needs a tune up. maybe new spark plugs and wires would help
