How do you lose fat and maintain muscle?

Mainly do cardio to lose fat but maintain muscle, bare in mind that doing only cardio will eventually lead your body not doing enough resistance training and to much endurance so you get the long distance runner look and you muscle definition will deminish. So you need to add resistance to your cardio by doing weights. weights will tear muscle fibers and when you rest your body will make these torn fibers bigger and stronger to cope with the load your lifting, doing little weights (40% of what you can lift only once) but lots of reps (30-50+) give toned look were as heavy weights (70% of what you can lift only once) but little reps (about 8-15 reps) will build muscle. On a side note the more muscle you have the more energy you burn as it increases your motabolism, eat the right amount of protein to maintain your muscle growth too.

How does the body build muscle or lose muscle?

You can build muscle by working out parts of your body like lift weights or use any kind of resistance that causes tension in your muscles and you loose muscle if you don't eat enough because your muscles need calories to burn and you also lose muscle when you go a real long time without working out.But it's not tension that builds muscle, it's OVERLOAD.

How long do you have to lift weights to become buff?

Since you do not want to damage the growth plates on the ends of your arm bones and leg bones, you would be better off lifting every other day with weights that you can do for 20 to 50 repetitions before exhaustion. It is important not to max out your weight, but for bulking up, you do want to lift to exhaustion, that is, the point at which you strain with all your strength but cannot lift the weight any longer. BE SURE to warm up for 15 minutes with light weights and 30-second stretches before you start with serious weights!!! Keep the muscle moving or rub it to avoid lactic acid buildup (shich causes sore muscles), then do another repetition to exhaustion. Finish with a third rep to exhaustion, or until you muscles feels "pumped up". Warm down with much lighter weights long enough to move the lactic acid out of the muscles, say, 10 to 15 minutes or longer. An hour per muscle group is plenty at age 15.

Will lifting weights or using a bowflex make a woman look masculine?

Not necessarily, if you lift lighter weights with more reps then you will develop long lean feminine muscles. If you want more masculine and defined muscles then lift a heavier weight with fewer reps.

Does your weight effect how much weight you can lift?

yes, it can actually make you weaker if you do to much a day. If you do it not to much but quite a bit so you dont lose muscle you can carry heavier weights over a time period. But if your under 18 and haven't had your full growth spurt it can stunt growth. It can much make your bones weaker but you these things might not happen you may be lucky or just wait until 18. Also it can make you have undeveloped bones!

How long should you lift weights?

If you are asking "What is the maximum time a single weight training session should last?" the answer is "about 45 minutes." Individual differs. Some people can train longer without wasting time and still be productive. If you are asking "How long in life should you lift weights?" the answer is "as long as possible." It has been proven that even people in their 90's can benefit from weightlifting.
