Best Answer

It is an aluminum bearing that allows smooth contact (and opertion) between connecting rod and crankshaft. The power that transfers from connecting rod to crankshaft creates the rotary motion that in turn provides the power to the transmission [thus wheels] that in turn moves the vehicle. It is also lubricated by engine oil which is sent by pressure created from oil pump.

How do you Replace rod bearing?

If the bearing has not spun or seized, you drop the oil pan, take the rod cap off of the rod and put the new bearing in. The bearing is in two pieces, half in the rod and half in the rod cap. If the bearing has spun, you should remove the crankshaft and either have the rod journal polished or machined for a thicker bearing.
