Alligators have a wider snout than crocodiles. Alligators are generally a little bigger too.

Alligators are generally less aggressive towards humans, than crocodiles, and would ignore humans or avoid confrontation. Unless you get within snacking distance.

Alligators have a broader snout, with visible overhanging top-teeth.

Alligators are also more widely distributed in the US and Canada, since they can thrive in temperatures as low as 5°C.

And importantly, Alligators are freshwater-phile and would not normally venture into brack or saltwater, as their salt-secreting glands are not as effective as crocodiles'.
