There is a 'striping' effect where magnetic material on the seafloor is aligned in different directions. "...during the upheaval of the Flood the flow of the molten iron in convection cells in the outer core carrying the freely-decaying electric currents meant that the resultant geomagnetic field generated would have rapidly changed direction and reversed its polarity because of that fluid movement. On the sea floor at the earth's surface new basalt lava flows were erupting rapidly due to the rifting apart of the old pre-Flood ocean floor and mantle plumes in mantle convection cells rising as a result of the catastrophic plate tectonics during the Flood. Each new basalt lava flow recorded the polarity direction of the geomagnetic field at the time it cooled. So due to the geomagnetic field reversing rapidly, and the basalt lava flows being erupted rapidly, the result was that these geomagnetic field polarity reversals were recorded in these sea floor basalts, both laterally and vertically. This paleomagnetic "striping" within the sea floor basalts was one of the key pieces of evidence that convinced geologists that the sea floor plates had spread, pushing the continental plates with them, albeit at a drift pace within their uniformitarian paradigm. However, Humphreys was able to demonstrate that because the paleomagnetic recordings of the polarity reversals were often in patches within the basalt sea floor and even within individual basalt flows, the reversals having occurred rapidly within days was a better explanation. The catastrophic plate tectonics model for the geology of the Flood thus provided a better context to explain the geomagnetic field polarity reversals. Thus Humphreys had even predicted that evidence of rapid reversals would be found before Coe, Prévot and their colleagues announced their discoveries, which of course then provided confirmation of both the Humphreys geomagnetic field model and the catastrophic plate tectonics model of the Flood. The magnetic particles in seafloor ridges are aligned differently in a repeating pattern How does this provide evidence for tectonic movement Why does it provide evidence?

Earth's magnetic field reverses over time; the changes show that seafloor has taken place over time.

How do magnetic reversals provide evidence for sea-floor spreading?

The presence of magnetic domains of alternating orientation parallel to the plate boundaries.

How did the discovery about seafloor spreading modify the theory of Continental drift?

Seafloor spreading explained WHY and how Continental Drift occurs. How can lands be 'moving' without a catastrophic or even noticeable change--- seafloor spreading accounts for these small changes. It identifies where the actual changes take place (even if we cannot identify the exact spots where spreading occurs). We can better estimate how much the "spreading" equates to observable/measurable changes of continents, specifically how fast (slowly) continents are moving closer or further apart. Seafloor spreading explains other phenomena, too, like the expulsion of methane gas pockets at the ocean floor which are suspected to interfere with flotation of ships and possibly the downing of airplanes that pass over where methane is released when methane gas disrupts the air above the water. Seafloor spreading also gives clues as to how mountains and valleys form underwater and on land.

Identify how magnetic symmetry can be used as evidence of sea floor spreading?

As the sea floor spreads the magnetic orientation in the rocks as they cooled is preserved. As the earth's magnetic field changes then a distinct pattern is imprinted in the rocks. If sea floor spreading is true then this unique pattern should be the same on both sides from the spreading point. Measurements of sea bottom rocks verify this symmetry is true. :)

What are the natural forces involved in the ongoing changes of California's surface features?

Seafloor Spreading, Global Warming, Overpopulation, and minor cases of Dysentery.

Is there evidence that sea floor spreading really happens?

The evidence exists in the extrusive igneous rock, basalt, on the ocean floor near the mid-oceanic ridges. The magnetic orientation of the Earth is recorded in the igneous rock at the time of its formation. The orientation of Earth's magnetic field changes over time, and thus provides a way to relatively date rocks. These orientations can be recorded and mapped with the aid of a magnetometer. Magnetic orientation of oceanic crustal rocks on one side of the mid-oceanic ridge appear as mirror images to the magnetic orientation of oceanic crustal rocks on the other side, meaning that the seafloor is spreading in opposite directions from the rift zone over time. Modern instruments have measured the movement of crust away from the rift zone and it roughly approximates the rate of human fingernail growth.

Paleomagnetism is proven by evidence of changes in?

Evidence of paleomagnetism can be found in basalt that has cooled from lava. Other evidence is that any rock with magnetic minerals are presents, and sedimentary rocks where minerals form from ion bearing ground water.

What is used as evidence for sea-floor spreading-?

The rocks on either side of a mid-ocean ridge record the direction of the Earth's magnetic field at the time they were formed, and form a pattern of 'magnetic stripes' on either side of the ridge which are symmetrical. It is also now possible to measure ocean widths with sufficient accuracy to show yearly changes.

What is the significance of the patterns of offsets along the mid-ocean ridge?

the matching patterns on either side of the mid-ocean ridge could be explained by new ocean crust forming at the ridge and spreading away from it as ocean crust forms it obtains the polarity of the earth's magnetic field at that time over time the strength of the earths magnetic field changes when new ocean crust forms at the center of the spreading it obtains a new kind of magnetic polarity over time a series of magnetic ''stripes'' are formed

Why call light as E M wave which is not having neither electric nor magnet?

Electromagnetic waves, like light, do involve changes in the electric and the magnetic field.
