Gantry cranes can be stationary or rolling. They generally all are set up in the same basic configuration. On a rolling crane, the hoist is often mobile only crosswise to the cranes forward and back rolling motion. On a stationary gantry the bridge or cross-member might be mobile rolling foreward and back along tracks, This type of crane is often referred to as a "bridge" crane. On the bridge or cross-member there is often a trolley which will move the breadth of the bridge.
The hoisting device is attached to the trolley.

a simple Gantry Crane can be made with 6x6 beams and a 2 ton chainfall, this should be able to handle a 1/2 ton to 1 ton lift without a problem.
Build a cradle 8 foot by 8 foot with four beams joined securely at the corners. mount two 6x6 8 foot beams vertically onto this cradle securely joined at the base, with two angle guy supports (tensioned with turnbuckles) out to either corner of the cradle on the same side as each post (they should be secured with 1/2 " diameter eye bolts through bolted to the post and the cradle, 1/4" steel cable should be sufficient). securely mount a beam across the top of these two posts, angle braces to prevent side motion should be used here. you now have a semi portable gantry. With a load strap or 4 ton rated chain wrapped around the cross member you can mount the chainfall and use this to hoist a small load up to 6 feet vertically. The taller the post the higher the lift, the cradle sides should be as long as the posts are tall.

How to Know When You Need Gantry Cranes?

Gantry cranes have been a fundamental part of large construction projects for decades. They are also useful in smaller applications, especially if they have been equipped with rubber wheels instead of running tracks. There are times when gantry cranes are exactly what you need for your project. What is a Gantry Crane? A gantry crane is a large piece of equipment that spans the width of a project site and provides lifting power for the heaviest items. Gantry cranes look like scaffolding with rope and pulley lifting devices. They are usually found at large construction sites or ship building locations. Gantry cranes are the most efficient way to lift very heavy objects into place with the least amount of effort or energy. They are uniquely beautiful to watch as they perform their heavy lifting tasks in a seemingly effortless manner. How Gantry Cranes are Commonly Used The most famous gantry cranes have been used to build large ships for the military and shipping industry. Some gantry cranes have been retired and are on public display because of their massive design and the impact they have had on ship building. Gantry cranes are also useful for building tall structures, like office buildings or apartment complexes. Some gantry cranes are designed to be mobile, which makes them perfect for lifting extremely heavy objects during projects that are not expected to last for months at a time. There are even gantry cranes that have wheels so that they can be moved more easily. Gantry Cranes for Smaller Workshops Though gantry cranes are designed to handle very large and heavy items for large projects, they can also handle smaller heavy items inside workshops. One of the most useful applications for these smaller gantry cranes is in automotive shops. Car engines are extremely heavy and difficult to manipulate, but they occasionally need to be removed from the car to be properly repaired. A small gantry crane can lift the engine from the car easily and allow the mechanic full access to the parts and sections of the engine that need to be worked on. The lifting capacity of gantry cranes makes them ideal for automotive repair shops.

Dgcrane is professional material handling equipment manufacturer and servicer with largest production in global. Provide you with overhead crane, gantry crane, electric hoist, etc. of safe, reliable and efficient crane solutions and services.Welcome to inquiry dgcrane. The terms gantry crane and overhead crane are often used interchangeably, as both types of crane straddle their workload. The usual distinction drawn between the two is that with gantry cranes, the entire structure is usually wheeled. By contrast, the supporting structure of an overhead crane is fixed in location, often in the form of the walls or ceiling of a building, to which is attached a movable hoist running overhead along a rail or beam. Further confusing the issue is that gantry cranes may also incorporate a movable beam-mounted hoist in addition to the entire structure being wheeled, and some overhead cranes are suspended from a freestanding gantry.
