If you mean how they are different today compared to 1800 you might be surprised to learn that they aren't that much different. President Ford once stated that the only difference was that the politics of the past were lit by candles and his was lit by electric lights. Basically, politics has always been a rough business. We think of our past presidents with awe and reverence, but they were not much different than men today. They said and wrote things about opponents that were mean, scandalous, and just lies. Added today is the Mass Communication of the internet and tweeting that makes these things worse. Not to mention in real time and spread faster than ever before.

Political campaigns today differ from those in 1800 in several ways, including the use of modern technology and media for communication and advertisement, the influence of money and fundraising on campaigns, and the increased emphasis on data analytics and targeting of voters. Additionally, campaigns now focus more on broader national and global issues, compared to the localized and personal nature of campaigns in 1800.
