Nobody's destroying the Amazon. That's a river and would take some destroying! What is being destroyed is the Amazon rainforest. This results in a loss of habitat for the creatures that live there and possibly a loss of the oxygen production of the trees. This could be serious, although maybe it's made up for by the crops that get planted instead.

because of all the logging companies, ranches and all the mining in the amazon, the roads are needed for transportation of the workers, supplies and the products. But they're destroying the rainforest because of their size and length. Also, they cut off the movement for both the animals and the people there. the amazonian highway is the largest road in the amazon. hope this helps :)
