Very are very tiny and small. They are the smallest of the formed elements, or blood cells. The other larger ones are red and white blood cells.

Red blood cells are seven microns in diameter. From a SEM photo of red and white blood cells that includes platelets, you can compare their relative sizes. Using this strategy I've estimated platelets are about 2 microns in diameter on average, but their size does vary. You can easily find such a photograph on wikipedia. It's not too scientific but it's the best I got.
