Currently, a number of Vestas V90 wind turbines are being installed in NZ. Diameter of blade circle 90m, (~290 ft) 3MW power output at 50 Hz.

Designs of wind turbines vary from 1 to 3 blades, and there are small Vertical Rotor types as well as the usual tower horizontal rotor types. They are becoming common in the North Sea.

Rotor type names include Propeller, Darrieus, and Savonnius.

The theoretic limit of extraction of power is about 60% of the wind energy, and modern machines approach 80% of this limit.

The highest wind turbine in the world is the Fuhrländer Wind Turbine Laasow, near the village of Lassow, Brandenburg, Germany. It is 205m (673ft) tall. However, its height does not make it the most powerful wind turbine around - that honour goes to the Enercon E-126. located in Emden, Germany.

Well, that depends. But if you're wondering about the size of the wind turbines that are typically used in commercial wind farms, they are about 350 feet high at the tip of the up pointed blade. The hub (center of the 3 blades) height is often about 80 meters (266 feet). The length of the blades is around 85-90 feet. The length of a football field is 300 feet, or 360 feet if you include the end zones.

Because the wind is stronger higher up and wind turbines need as much wind as possible

If you think about it, they are dependent on the height of the tower, and where the tower is. Obviously, they are shorter though.
