Yes. Alligators eat when they are hungry- and they are not picky eaters. They also will eat both hard and soft shell turtles, ducks, birds, other gators, raccoons, coyotes, dogs, cats, -and people- as well as anything else they can catch.
The egg tooth helps baby turtles cut through the leathery shell when they are ready to hatch. It doesn't persist much past hatching.
