20 inch rims will fit with a low profile tire,22's may fit but u may have to shave part of the front bumper and tires may rub the back wheel whale
Ford Taurus SHO was created in 1989.
I have seen some Guys put 22'" max on the Taurus, but I wouldn't recommend it due to weight, and I believe it will cause transmission issues. I think the max I would go is 20", but as a Taurus owner I am going with 18" to be safe.

You mean a 1992 Taurus SHO... yes all the MTX transmissions are the same from 1989 to 1995. the regular Ford Taurus does not have a standard transmission.
According to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etcetera ) The 3.0 liter V6 engine in a 1989 Ford Taurus SHO has a timing BELT
