India Today
The Indian psyche in the aftermath of thousands of years of being conquered and subjugated was not prepared for complete independence. It may be recalled that India as a country is a British legacy. Prior to that it was just small principalities and kingdoms. The system of governance by the British was unfortunately imbibed by a very select few and could not be sustained down the ages.
With the departure of the British came independence - hitherto unknown, democracy - without responsibility And chaos
Post independence, there was chaos everywhere - more so in our Govt. portals. The traces of the uprightness the Indians learnt from the British is fast fading whether it be in our armed forces, our educational institutions, our bar associations, our architecture - where is it? - or for that matter in all walks of life. Indeed generation next would not even have a clue about it.
In today's India corruption is a way of life. And when something is a way of life, a person stops thinking about it. And when it is not thought about how can it be corruption? That is the vote banker of India today.
And the hiatus between the rich and the poor was and continues to be unbridgeable, so where is the corruption in such a system?
The problem is already there. Now the solution should be found and, sad to say, with our babudom there is not one in sight.
