If you have long thin arms like me, then you should be able to change the plugs by removing the plastic fascia that is below the windshield wipers. That should give you just enough room to maneuver. No need to mess with the air intake.
I successfully changed my plugs and wires this way, but do not start taking apart your wires and plugs until you are sure that you can reach all of them first!
You will also need a socket wrench extender to get the plugs out.
How to change the ect on the northstar engine

The year, engine size and if it is the intake manifold or an exhaust manifold gaskets would help.
For a 1995 Ford Taurus : With engine oil filter change : ( I believe that is 4.5 U.S. quarts for the 3.0 Vulcan , V6 engine ) * that's what it is on a 1996 Ford Taurus 3.0 Vulcan , V6 engine
Where does trans control solenoid go on a 1998 ford taurus
According to the 1996 Ford Taurus Owner Guide : The 3.4 liter V8 engine in a 1996 Ford Taurus SHO takes : ( 6.5 U.S. quarts of 5W-30 engine oil with engine oil filter change )
I am still waiting for an answer. The book says on 1999 and newer Taurus's the engine and transaxle must be removed underneath the vehicle to change motor mounts. You will need a hoist and engine cradle. Big Job! Check with a proffessional.
I'd recommend removing the engine to do it. No, that's not a joke.
With a socket set :)
you will have to unbolt the exhaust pipe from the manifold pipe and then you unbolt the manifold pipe from the engine, remove old gasket and make sure both sides are clean of the old gasket and then install new gasket and bolt manifold back onto engine.
Any leak will change the way the engine breathes. Any change can change the air/fuel mixture. If it changes enough it can cause damage.
