Because everybody's body is different and every person has different needs, no one method will work for everybody. Try to incorporate the following four characteristics of fitness into your weekly life, keep track of what you are doing, and set challenging goals for yourself.

  • Stamina- can you stay in motion for a long period of time? Pacing yourself while running long distances, jogging and swimming can help.
  • Speed- how quickly can you complete a series of movements? You may have to start off doing exercises slowly, but challenge yourself now and then to see how fast you can complete a number of sit-ups or run half a mile.
  • Strength- what can you lift? Whether you're into weight-lifting or just want it to be easier to carry your backpack to school, being able to move things is important.
  • Agility- are you flexible? Exercises like yoga, tai-chi and pilates will help you become more flexible.
