Rules will differ depending on the issuing country. If you perform a search for your country and "replace lost passport" you should get a government website to direct you.
As an example, Canada requires you to report the loss to police and have a lawyer or notary public witness your declaration of loss; you would also need to produce relevant i.d., have photographs taken, etc., as if you were renewing.

∙ 15y agoFirst up� you must apply in person. Best way to save time on trying to figure out what to do over the phone because they will tell you to come in anyways. Give them another application, proof of citizenship, proof of identity, proof of SSN, bring in 2 pics and they reprocess your order.
Actually FIRST first up� you need to report it lost.
Once reported they will kind of "interview" you about your identity and then give you a reissuance date. It cost anywhere between $35-100 depending on the type.
