I do this:
▪ Run 3 miles a day.
▪ No Sweets/Snacks. Just limit meals(breakfest, lunch, supper)
▪ Limit yourself in all foods. Always look at calories and fat. If possible, eat only 98% fat free food or fat free(sweets, snacks).
▪ How much you lose every week: 5-7 pounds
▪ How much you lose a month: 30-55 pounds

One of the problems with being overweight is that you confuse being hungry with being bored, anxious, or sad. You have eaten wrong for so long that you forgot how to tell if you are hungry for real. I know...I used to have that problem.How to tell if you are really hungry? If you think you are hungry, go get a glass of water. Drink the water and wait 20 minutes. You won't starve in 20 minutes, and a lot of the time your body wants water. Most likely your body wanted water in the first place, but you don't drink anything unless you eat. So try that first.
Another trick is to have gum. Many times you aren't really hungry, but you want something in your mouth. Gum only has about 5 calories as opposed to a piece of bread which has 50. Do the math? Your mouth won't know the difference, your body thinks it has something to eat...and you lose some weight.
As far as exercise goes, exercise is anything that involves moving your body. Dancing is an exercise!! So is walking or doing chores. Anything that gets you off the couch and up is a good thing. Learn a new dance or learn how to "pace". Pacing is a type of exercise that tells you how far your steps are and how far you are going. If you step 14 inches every time you walk...how far is it to the mailbox and back? How far is it to your room? Try for a goal of 5,000 paces a day...you'd be amazed at how far you walk in a day.

Safely - she can't. A good and healthy rate for adults is considered to be 2-3 lbs/week. Setting out to lose that much in that time is setting up to fail, and to risk your health trying.
