the lights on the router will flash and in the network folder of your computer it might say the computers name that is connected to the router. The hacker will not be visible if he has his computers network settings set to private. If the lights are flashing continuously and you know that no one else in your house is connected to it. Switch it off to avoid any serious threats

Why can't I get internet even though I'm connected to the router p.s. I have windows Vista so try to explain it using that.?

Sometimes the type of wireless connection you have will interfere with your ability to connect. If you have a WEP connection, you can switch to WPA to see if you can connect.

Why do YouTube and other media player I use lag?

This is very dependent on how exactly you are connecting to the internet if you have a high speed connection (DSL, Cable, Etc). If you are then try the following based on what is true: Using a wireless connection: 1) make sure you have a good signal and connection speed to your wireless router. If you do then chances are you will need to adjust the TX and RX rates on your wireless card to match the router. (see router documentation) 2) If you are hardwired then go to dslreports.com and under tools use the speedtest and tweaktest *If the above does not help let me know. Hope this helps!

Can someone see what you're downloading on a wireless device such as a laptop?

The transmission itself can be detected regardless. But if you are using protected network, they can't see what you are actually downloading and from which website. WEP secured networks are exception and its security is very easy to bypass.

802.11n usb wireless lan card slow download speed fix?

Any number of things may be causing a slow data transfer. If your router is handling multiple wireless connections, then you are only getting a portion of the available wireless bandwidth. If there are any other wireless routers/networks nearby, they may be using the same channel as your network, interfering with your bandwidth and forcing retries.Nearby electrical appliances may be generating interference causing your network to perform retries and slowing down your network. This could be a microwave, cordless or cell phone or fluorescent light fixtures. There could be congestion from multiple other data transfers taking up available bandwidth. There could be a problem with your internet modem, router , lan card, or the software driving them. Try rebooting them and see if it helps. There could be a problem with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or their connection to your house.Things to try:Try using a wired connection. If a wired connection works better than the problem is related to the wireless networking. If the wired connection still has a slow transfer, the problem may be in your router, modem or isp connection. reboot your router and/or modem to see if it clears the problem before calling your ISP.There are free utilities available to see who else is doing wifi and on what channels. If other networks are using the same channel as your network, change the channel setting on your router to an unused channel. There are web sites to measure transmission speed. See if it gets faster by moving your computer closer to the wireless router. If it does, than you may be getting interference locally.
