the lights on the router will flash and in the network folder of your computer it might say the computers name that is connected to the router. The hacker will not be visible if he has his computers network settings set to private. If the lights are flashing continuously and you know that no one else in your house is connected to it. Switch it off to avoid any serious threats

The transmission itself can be detected regardless. But if you are using protected network, they can't see what you are actually downloading and from which website. WEP secured networks are exception and its security is very easy to bypass.
You can make a wired connection with an ethernet cable instead of wireless. You can increase the Internet service with your internet service provider. You can test your internet service connection with the PS3 network connection test and see if moving you router location helps.
