I think the question should be other way around :-) In journey towards Veganism, generally people avoid lot of junk food and stop gaining unnecessary weight. Please help me understand what you eat generally and I can answer this better.

A vegan will avoid any animal products: eggs, milk, cheese, leather, jelly, and so on. You will need to carefully go through every label of items you buy - searching for anything that contains animal products. Personally, unless you relish the challenge, I would stick at being a vegetarian.
