By far the most direct sense-> mind psychological connexion is music. Psychologists are continuously discovering new 'scientific' reasons for what performers and their audiences have known for millennia; music can, and does, influence mood. Rather than have a single, ham-fisted 'romantic' tune, or even album, strive rather to build gradually to a (pardon the choice of word, here) climax...consider instead the most subtle of fore'play' to begin with; simple, unadorned, perhaps even a single instrument...a few little Kenny G. selections, perhaps. Build on your foundation with a little more complexity, perhaps a slow Ballad or two from Chicago's four-album 'Carnegie Hall' sessions in 1971. Continue in this manner over the course of the evening...or weekend, if 'The Project' is either serious, worth it or a 'real challenge', by reinforcing the fundamental concept of relaxation. The more complex 'The Project', the more gradual the emotional inflationary spiral. Only for the 'brightest-eyed' (that is, she whose eyes are bright solely because of the sunlight shinging, unimpeded, through the back of her head) should the Romantic Host go straight to Ravel's Bolero. Don't fail to compliment all the other senses as well; scrupulously visible (and scentable) tidiness (freshly laundered sheets, pillowcases, blankets, mattress pad, quilt/duvet and 'fabric-'freshener' sprayed mattress itself...(sun-dried is best, ressurect your Mom's old clothesline for the purpose, if possible), 'clean'-smelling surroundings (not simply 'air-freshened'), fresh flowers (except roses and most succulents...too oppressive...your local florist can advise), the smell of 'somebody else's cooking' (even bakery-bought savoury (yet another sense heard from) appetizers, warmed slightly in the microwave, will do), comfortableseating (haul your parents' old hand-me-down couch to the spare/office/storage room and replace it with a pile of pillows and tasteful muted-tone velour blankets; 'so we can (snuggle close and) relax while I show you pictures of my (insert worthy activity/cause/mission/volunteer project/hobby here)'...or books, mementoes, etc. of anything with an 'awwwww' factor; puppies, kittens, natural disaster victims smiling as they receive help/aid, etc... Key to maintaining mood is avoiding spoilage of it; empty the dishwasher, clean the bathroom (even if she wouldn't use it on a bet, she'll still inspect it, and the contents of the medicine cabinet; what better way to learn about you?), take out the garbage (disinfectant spray smell is acceptable inside the garbage container only), clean the windows (sunsets scream shown streaks), but, above and far beyond all else; make absolutely certain your outfit, and inside it...You...are scrupulously clean, absent rough spots like callus, hangnails (causing a run in her pantyhose or [bonus!!!] stockings [!!!] is a mammoth 'spoiler'...see above under 'avoiding) or stubble...Don Johnson's a Grandfather, for pete's sake...so, shave, already!!!
