THE HARDEST PART ABOUT OVERCOMING an addiction is admitting there is a problem and WANTING to stop. If you want to stop using alcohol, I would suggest attending AA meetings. Look in the phone book white pages and call the local chapter for meeting places and times. Practically EVERY town across the country will have meetings at different times and locations, and it is pretty easy to work a meeting into your schedule. I highly recommend AA (alcoholics anonymous) meetings regularly. Depending on your needs, you can attend a meeting once a week or everyday, if needed. ALSO- if a heavy drinker stops drinking, they should see a health care professional, whether it's your doctor or a local health clinic. They will prescribe something like Librium that will help with the shaky hands and also will help avoid a seizure, which can happen if a heavy drinker stops drinking "cold turkey" (immediately, all at once. I WISH YOU SUCCESS AND GOOD HEALTH!!

There are many programs at churches, hospitals, and other community organizations that can help you with alcohol addiction, and the emotional problems associated.

Check out the newspaper, ask your doctor, or stop by a local hospital and ask a secretary. People at the front desk have all kinds of information. (Make sure to drive while sober or take a bus--stay safe.)

It's important to build a system of people that will support and love you as you work to overcome this addiction. Friends, family members, counselors, co-workers, and others might be places to start. If you feel alone, now might be a good time to reach out. Attending 12-step meetings, or some equivalent, will help you connect with others facing similar issues.

It's also important not only to stay sober, but to face the reasons you began drinking in the first place. If you've been dealing with a mental illness, past or current abuse, or something else, now is the time to utilize community and mental health services to face these problems and begin the healing process. The reasons you began to drink aren't going to go away, and trying to forget them isn't going to help.

The important thing is to know you are a worthwhile person with a problem--many times individuals think that their worth has decreased because of their addiction to alcohol, and that is NOT the truth. You can overcome this and find happiness, health, and peace.

Good luck, stay strong, and don't give up.

If you have an addiction of any type, you'll want to reach out to either an inpatient or outpatient drug treatment center. The best ones are the ones that require good insurance because the cost of your stay will not be cheap. On the same note, these will be dual diagnosis treatment centers that will treat both the mental and physical side of addiction. Not all drug treatment centers are created equally. Summit Behavioral Healthcare owns a large network of drug treatment centers that offer a full continuum of care for addicts.

Alcohol addiction is not something to take lightly. It's everywhere once you get out of treatment and every single day will be a battle.

There are many ways like seeing someone that will help, you but that would cost a lot of money. But the least expensive way is to break your habit slowly. Like for example, if you have ten beers, cut it down to Eight or at the most Nine, you will see that that one last one doesn't really make a difference after a little time. Once your used to one or two lowest, slowly move down to the next lowest. It is going to take some time and effort but it is possible. That way is also used effectively for drug problems as well. Good luck!

There is no actual cure for alcohol addiction but you can go to rehab and AA meetings because it really helps having a support group. It takes time and patience.
