On many of the older guns there are no model numbers, but there may be a serial number. If there is a serial number then try to Google the name of the company (J Stevens Arms Co) and try to get a number or an address to contact them to get the model number. If there is no serial number, then you will have to bring the gun to a gun dealer who specializes in antique guns. You can also try to Google "J. C. Higgins". The original company was owned by J. C. Higgins and a man with the last name of Stevens. This company was in the early 1900's, so the gun is quite old. Savage Arms may be able to help you also.

The Stevens model 311 was discontinued in the year 1989.You would have to contact Savage/Stevens to get the actual age of your double barrel shotgun.
JC Higgins was a Sears brand for guns sold by them, made by others, including Stevens. Your shotgun could be either or both- depends on what is marked on the gun.

The Stevens 335 was manufactured from about 1910-1940. There are very few documented Wells Fargo guns and those that have documentation are not conspicously marked with the company name. These were added by an unscrupulous antique dealer wishing to sell a $200 shotgun for $1000.
Manufactured sometime between 1920 and 1948.
