How can you find out the path of device drivers?

It depends on the operating system. In Microsoft Windows, Device Manager lists all the hardware. Inspecting the properties of specific hardware will determine where the current drivers reside. Many will reside in the Windows\System32 folder, however they can be registered in any folder on the system. In Linux, however, all the modules can be found in /lib/modules/<kernel>.

For Windows operating systems, generally you can system drivers in the following folder / directory:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS

Now, as to which path and the name(s) of the driver(s), it can get a little tricky depending on the reason you're looking for the driver to begin with.

If the Optical Drive is already installed, and for general purposes, you can find all the details about this driver using "Device Manager".

You may be able to right-click the Computer icon and choose Properties to get to the location where you can select "Device Manager"

Otherwise, try running the command "devmgmt.msc" from the Run box.

Click on Start and then in the box (it might say Run or Search), type "devmgmt.msc" without quotes, and press the Enter key. Device Manager should open.

Next, find your Optical Drive by expanding the correct category.

When you find the Optical Drive you're referring to, right click the name, and choose Properties.

There should be a Driver tab where you'll find the Driver Details button.

Here you will find ALL the driver files and the path / folder they are in.
