There are basically two possible causes expansion and contraction of the heating system (either air ducts or water pipes) or water hammers. Water hammers can be greatly reduced through the use of dead end pipes that contain air, usually located in the vicinity of faucets. There are also special pipe pieces that can be put in place. Contraction and expansion is a much tougher issue in an existing structure. Basically you have to either pad or lubricate any place that the ducts or pipes are touching joists or walls. You may be able to reduce the speed of heating and cooling and reduce some of the popping through some settings on the furnace. Good luck!
put some oil on the corner of the door
its amazing
With out hearing it, It is hard to say whats wrong. But the most common noise like that would probley be a ROD knocking. Time for engine overhaul.
it is a verb. the word "bang" is an onomatopoeia, but "banging" is a verb (think about it this way. have you ever heard a sound that makes the noise "BANGING"?)
Maybe cause of the headboard banging against the wall, just a thought.

Muffler
In my old home, the problem had to do with the piping size from the water heater. We never did find a plumber who had a cost effective way to fix it.
a lifter
If the noise is only for a few moments after taking a shower, its the expansion on the hot water side. Water lines going through studs will expand and make noise. the only way to fix this is to get in the wall and either loosen the pipe or tighten it with a shim.
