in the manual i just received covering Volvo penta outdrives it states that all you have to do to convert a clockwise rotation to a counter clockwise is to pull the shift cover off and move the shift Linkage (in the book states word for word)The gear arrangement in the upper gear housing is so designed that no modifications are necessary in order to change propeller rotation. Only the linkage needs to be altered and this is verry simple!!! when you pull the Shift cover off you will see how simple it is. if its not self explanitory to you by looking at it then you should not try to change the oil in a motor, for this procedure is so simple that a 5 year old could do it with no help. Simply put. mover lever from one side to the other.and that changes the rotation.and according to SELOC VOLVO PENTA Stern drives manual 1968-91 Ihope this will be helpfull

Do they make a reverse flow water pump for a Chevy?

Yes and no. Yes: If you have a reverse flow engine which would be an LTI or L99 which were found in big Chevies, Buicks, Corvettes and Camaros, Then you need a reverse FLOW pump. It is driven by a shaft from the timing gear, so does not have a pulley on it at all. It does not match up with a non-LT-1 block. No: If your water pump has a pulley it can be either standard rotation or REVERSE rotation. If it is driven by a V-belt it is standard rotation. If it is driven by the back side of a serpentine belt then it is REVERSE ROTATION. This pump will have a pulley that is smooth and wider than a V-belt. These pumps will physically bolt up to the same block but the REVERSE Rotation spins counter-clockwise as viewed from the front of the engine. My '93 Suburban has a Reverse Rotation pump because it has one serpentine belt running all the accessories. When I put a new Edelbrock pump on it I made sure to get a Reverse Rotation pump. Your auto parts store genius should be able to get the right pump for you if you know the make and model year.

What is the purpose of idler gear?

it"s just idle condition...the engine will be running > Usually to reverse the direction of rotation in a gearbox etc.

Reversing the rotation of a motor?

To reverse the rotation of your engine you will need to reverse the firing order of your spark-plugs. You can do this either on the distributer or on the engine itself. After that you will need to have a new cam made to match your new reversed cylinder firing order to allow air to enter and exit each cylinder appropriately. Now you will be abled to drive your car foreward by putting the transmission in reverse, any other gear will make the car move in reverse.

What are the definition of engine timing mechanism?

The "engine timing mechanism" is a system of gears and belts(or chains) that keep the rotation of the crankshaft synchronized (timed) with the cam shaft so they operate at the same intervals.
