GIFs are limited to 256 colors, this is the reason why they turn out grainy. This is no limitation of the software, but of the GIF format. Please refer to the linked question for more details.
One option would be to use PNG as an alternative, if you only care about transparency. If you look for animated GIF, then the choice is more difficult.
