On my 97 mountaineer you cannot open the hood with the release inside the truck. Standing in front of the truck on the drivers side behind the grill the cable is located to pop the latch. Carefully pull out the bottom right side of the grill and you have to have a skinny arm reach in and pull downward on the cable itself this will pop the hood...
There is no Cable it is a speed sensor on the transmission
Neg=Ground, with nowhere for the charge to escape, then it will not complete the circuit
Take it to the dealer. Be responsible.
It's probably not going to be a cable, rather, it will be operated by vacuum, and you need to go to a car parts store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00 Or, go to a Public Library.
Disconnect the negative battery cable and then remove the positive cableRemove the battery heat shieldRemove the battery hold-down clamp boltLift out battery
To open the hood on a 2001 mercury cougar when the hood latch cable snaps you will need to release the mechanism from the underside. You will need a mechanics prybar and look up from underneath the car, place the screwdriver tip in the release mechanism and turn.
As soon as a battery cable is removed ( negative first ) the computer programming is disrupted . The vehicle will need to relearn its idle , the preset radio stations will need to be reset etc.
Get a longer cable. They can be up to 300 feet or so per cable.
This is commonly cause when the transmission is replaced and the shift linkage is not hooked up properly. Find the shift cable on your transmission and disconnect it, then put your shifter into park. The transmission linkage needs to be put in park as well. Now that both the transmission and your shifter are in park, you can adjust the cable accordingly and reconnect it. This should solve your problem.
That's common; you need to put a "splitshot" between the cable and the small bolt on the right side cable so it "shortens" the cable about 1/8 inch.....The cable gets a "little" slack and it alway sefects the right side...
the whole cable or just the cable ends ??????????????
# Disconnect negative battery cable # Raise and support the truck # Remove the protective cover from the starter motor solenoid terminals # Disconnect the wiring from the terminals on the starter motor solenoid # Remove the starter mounting bolts and detach the starter from the engine
