It is a lengthy project if you do it correctly. You have to just about take the entire tailgate apart piece by piece. I started by removing the tail gate and putting it on some padded saw horses. From there, you just have to keep removing bolts until you get it broken down. The reason it is so difficult is there is a small tab positioned so that you cannot remove the latch -- you will likely see it early on. It is located right in the latch handle area. I took a short cut at this point. You don't have to but it was "a big time saver." After looking at the tab for a while and procrastinating about taking the tailgate apart, I had my body man take a cutting wheel and remove the tab. You cannot see this when the latch is in place -- it appears to be a security enhancement, not a requirement for looks or operation of the latch. Anyway, it saved a couple hours of work and works/looks fine.
