There are some species of Gourami where there are no visible differences between the sexes but in the majority, the males have longer, pointed, more flowing, dorsal and anal fins with extended fillaments. The females fins usually tend to have rounded corners.

∙ 14y agoThere is no visible sexual dimorphism in this species. The only way to sex Kissing gouramis (Helostoma temminicki) is to actually observe them spawning. In order to do this the fish will need to be almost fully grown (about 10 or 12 inches long). The male is the one who builds the nest and is seen wrapping itself around the female.

∙ 13y agoThe male guppy as most live bearing fish have what they call a gonopodium that is on the bottom fin (ventral fin) by their anus. They have this instead of a penis. It looks like an extra part of the fin and is kept close to the body until mating time. Also the male guppy as in many species is more colourful than the female. Hope this helps.
