First take your volt meter and set it to DC volts and place the red terminal on the positive (+) side of your battery and the black terminal on the negative (-) side of the battery and you should be getting at least 12 volts DC if you are seeing any less than 12 you most likely have a weak battery
Any Auto Parts Store will test your battery for free.
Bad charging system, bad battery, short that drains battery... the list goes on. Without more specifics, it's hard to tell. Bad charging system, bad battery, short that drains battery... the list goes on. Without more specifics, it's hard to tell.
Remove the battery and take it to an auto parts store for testing. They can tell you if it is bad. If it is good, then remove the starter and do the same thing.
The battery light will be illuminated on the dashboard and later the battery will go flat as it is not getting charged Garages can check this for you if your battery is frequently getting flat.
Get engine running. While the engine is running disconect the POSITIVE termninal from the battery. If the engine dies, the Alterntor is bad.
Use a vom meter, or battery tester and with the engine running voltage should be approximately 14.5 volts.
If you can get the vehicle to your local auto parts store, at no cost they can test the charging system and tell you what the problem is, be it a bad battery or alternator or what ever.
Its best to be honest from the outset, just look it in its eyes, and tell it whatever you feel you need to. If it finds out you have been lying, it will only be badder
No, a bad coil will not drain the battery.
You check the voltage under load. Even a bad battery may have good voltage if no current is flowing, so you need an appropriate "test" load.
Start engine and measure volts at battery, it should be at least 13
Vehicles run DC. 13.5 - 14+ volts at battery is o/k. Shows alternator is charging but won't tell you amp output. If the battery is bad you will wear out the alternator as it trys to keep a bad battery charged (it will work itself to death)
