A cowlick usually stands straight up right smack at the top of the head while a swirl is simply a round swirl of hair and doesn't stick up.

If you have a cowlick should you get side bangs?

yea you should, i have two cowlicks in the front, and i have side bangs. tell your hairdresser you have them and they can work with them. But keep them a bit longer for sidebangs and not short ones. But to style them.. be patient and your going to have to work them with a hairdryer and round brush. Pull gently at the roots and give the roots volume so your cowlick isn't going wacko. hope i helped :) **remember** if you have a cowlick, your side bangs will be naturally a little puffed out from the roots on out.
