If it does, don't even bother with anything else. the magnetic quality means that it contains iron and is base metal, perhaps plated base metal, but still base metal. If however it doesn't stick then you can go on to step 2. go to your neighborhood Walmart or ace hardware and purchase a hand h-held propane or acetelyne torch, either will do and Last time I checked, propane ran about 12 bucks. Next, place the piece of jewelry; or if you like the piece, a small bit of it such as a jumpring or bit of chain on a heat and fire resistant surface. Now light the torch and play it over the surface of the metal in a circular motion until it is red hot. WARNING: If the metal is plated , the plating will peel off!!!! After the metal has turned red hot, remove the flame and let it air cool. If it is still bright and shiny when it has cooled, Congratulations!!!! you are in posession of jewelry made out of one of 6 "platinum" metals! If it's black and nasty, it's bupkiss. Whoops, almost forgot.....If it is at all tarnished before you begin, it IS NOT a platinum metal...don't waste your time and just appreciate the beauty of it...let me know how it goes and good luck!
