This is actually VERY VERY simple to teach a dog. Don't attempt to try and train it this before avout 6 months or it will bark ALL THE TIME. If you have a small dog you need treats and a toy but if you have a big dog usually a toy will do it. What you do is you get them all excited about playing with a toy. after about 2 minutes of waiting the dog might bark. When it barks say speak. Do this for about 30 minutes a day. No less then 15 or the dog will forget. after a week or so get rid of the toy and just tell it to speak. If it does not reply to the command, do it with a toy again for a day or so. If the dog barks when it wants attention, ignore it. It will think that if it barks when not spoken to, it will get attention. DO NOT give it what it wants or it will become very greedy. After about 2 or three weeks of doing this, your dog should bark when told. Hope it works. It worked for all my dogs
when he/she is a puppy when they bark tell them no and hit their muzzle with your index finger several times not hard though.
Dogs bark for a reason; fear, excitement, boredom, etc. Removing the reason will stop the behavior. I would suggest speaking with your dog's vet or a trainer for more detailed help.
You can't train your dog to bark you have to wait for it to bark on it's own and if it doesn't bark contact your local vet for a check-up

Improved Answer:If you have a dog that barks too much, you can't train it not to bark but you can train it what times to bark and what times not to bark. You can also debark your dog with surgery from a Vet, after they are debarked they have a faint rough huff sound when they bark.
Bark control systems usually have a microphone that detects when the dog barks. When it detects the bark, it does something uncomfortable to the dog, such as a high-pitched whistle or a small shock. THen the dog associates barking with the painful sensation and learns not to bark.
Train it to 'speak:' Tell your dog to speak. If your doggie doesn't bark, then say 'speak' again, then bark. Yup, you heard me right, bark. then keep repeating this until your dog catches on... Just make sure you're alone or you might gain a unwanted reputation!
Every dog is different. The cockapoo is a usually calm breed and rarely has temperament problems but if you don't train them right or don't train them at all then they can bark a lot.
Well I don't think you can but if so ask people at a pet store
usually you don't have to train a dog to be protective it already is, i didn't have to train my dog and it is a great watch dog. I agree. Usually dogs have a natural sense of "Hey! This is my territory; get out!", so they'll just bark and bark at someone. Usually. But if your dog doesn't do that, then he/she either trusts humans too much (not that that's a bad thing) to bark at them, or he/she doesn't really care.
The possessive form for the bark of the dog is the dog's bark.
by giving it all the treats it wants and it wont bark for food and more
The key to training a dog to do anything is repetition. If your dog is one of the few that doesn't bark when someone knocks, don't worry. You should be able to train him or her to do so in a short amount of time. The first thing you need to do is train your dog to speak on command. A simple way of doing this is to restrain your dog, in a safe way, of course, and call his or her name. When they get frustrated because they can't get to you, they will bark. Once they bark, you need to immediately praise him or her and give a treat. Continue this until you can get the dog to speak without being constrained. Then, use the speak command when someone knocks at the door. You may want to get someone to help you for this part. Every time the dog barks at the knock on the door, give praise by you and your helper. Your dog will quickly learn to bark when someone knocks.
A "bark collar". Two barks allowed.
