Photoshop Actions are using for redoing the activities recorded on a particular image.
It just a replication of a set of activities applied to an image .The same set of activities can be applied on other images.
The actions can be recorded by pressing the record button on the action panel (alt/option +f9) the recording should be stopped by pressing the stop button on the panel once the defined activities are done. The same actions can be replay to other images using the play button or a pre-defined function key/shortcut. The same actions can be used for batch process as well.
