Hmm.... It sounds like your key fob is sending signals OK. Does it lock and unlock the doors the way it should? If so, something is amiss in the trunk or the latch. If you can open it with the key, at least you're not stuck with a non usable trunk. The problem might be a fault in the key fob it'self, or may be a bad connection in the trunk. On my '96, the remote controller is located behind the carpet in the trunk on the driver's side fender wall. I'd check all of those plugs and take a look at the connection to the latch. I think I'd also shoot the latch with some WD-40. It might be that it's just sticky. Also, if your key opens the trunk, take a look at the little threaded trunk lid adjusters in the trunk lid, if your car has them, and make sure the trunk lid is closing the same on both sides. If the trunk lid is skewed when it's closed, it might be binding. In my part of the country, several auto stereo shops also sell, and will test, key fobs. You might want to consider having the fob checked to see if just the trunk button is not working. That's about the best I can do for you. Good Luck! FriPilot
beside the drivers seat...on the floor
There's a black cord inside the trunk on the top left.
Look to the left side of the driver's seat on the floor. There should be a lever between the seat and the door sill.
This may or may not help. My '96 has an interior trunk release lever located on the floor between the driver's seat and the door sill. I don't know how long Pontiac located the release there.
simple there isn't one..you flip it open by hand silly! :P it's a econmy car
One end is a quick release. This will become obvious when you look at the new one. The other end is threaded. Use two wrenches to avoid torquing the connection.
there are clips on each side of the headlight housing under the hood. Pull each clip to release the housing. It will slide out towards you. Then you can pull the bulb out.
I don't know if this will be any help or not .. my car is a couple of years newer than yours. My trunk release is a lever located on the floor between the driver's seat and the door sill. Maybe your's is similar? FriPilot

Have you looked on the floor between the driver's seat and the door sill? That's where it is on my '96. thanks for trying, but no there is nothing between seat and door sill
The dimmer switch is part of the turn signal stalk. To operate it, pull it toward you and release. You'll hear an audible click when it operates. If you pull it only part way, you'llengage the "flash to pass" feature.
